Inception – the dream is real
Inception is about a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. And now, he is supposed to plant an idea in someone’s mind. So he creates a dream in a dream in a dream. 😛
Just like Jay Leno said in the Tonight Show, i think i will have to see this movie again to understand it. All the different levels of sleep and reality are confusing, not to mention the ending with two very likely interpretations. You can read more about them here and decide for yourself. I go for the “he woke up in the end” story.
On top of the mind blowing storyline the movie also has quite a few funny bits like:
“Cobb: [notices that he’s being followed] That price on my head, was that dead or alive? Eames: Not sure. See if he starts shooting at you.”
“Eames: [Shows up while Arthur is in a gunfight] You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling. [Pulls out a grenade launcher].”
So, after you see it, i invite you to tell me what you think? Did he or did he not wake up?

While I agree that it’s totally up for interpretation, I’d say he’s in the real world when he goes home to his kids. I’ve seen an interesting point somewhere on some board, that if you look carefully, whenever Mr. Cobb is in a dream, he is wearing his wedding ring (starting with the very first scene, when he washed up on the shore), and when he’s in the real world, he doesn’t. If you look carefully in the last scenes, he doesn’t wear the ring.
That’s my conclusion too. But with a different argument: the spinning top in the last scene is spinning like the one in the post and seems to be slowing down, while the one in the dream is spinning perfectly and with constant speed…
